SECTION 1 - WHAT'S NEW IN THIS RELEASE
1.1 –
IntelliFile3 supports configuring an IntelliControl ICS System with the new IM-NET Digital
Music Integration Module. The IM-NET Digital Music Integration Module allows intelligent
access, playback, and control of digital music libraries residing on a home network as
well as Internet Radio.
1.1.1 – Firmware updates for the GXR2 Modular MultiZone Receiver and all user
interfaces are included in this release and are required for proper integration of
the IM-NET Digital Music Integration Module.
1.1.2 - The IM-NET firmware enables it to integrate with an IntelliControl ICS system and
includes an "Admin Utility" that allows each IM-NET module to be customized.
1.2 –
IntelliFile3 Firmware Update now allows you to restore the factory settings to an HT-
MSU, which includes both zone assignments and ZigBee radio settings. This feature
allows installers to convert HT-MSU’s that have been in a multiple theater configuration
back to their factory default.
SECTION 2 — IMPROVEMENTS AND ISSUES RESOLVED
USER INTERFACE DEVICES
2.1 – A ll IntelliControl ICS user interfaces have improved overall operat ion, including:
2.1.1 – Improved functionality of the Contact keypad when the “All Off” command is
issued in a multiple-theater-zone configuration. Now, pressing and holding the OFF
button on a Contact will turn off all GXR2 zones and then display a screen that
asks if the user wishes to turn off all theater zones.
2.1.2 – Resolved latency issue relating to the real-time updating of the iRemoteTS’s
battery gas gauge.
2.1.3 - Resolved transposed function keys on the iRemoteTS’s Numeric and Control
screens.
2.1.4 - Resolved the inability to access other control screens when the FAVS screen is set
as the default Main Screen.
RF Bases
2.3 – RFG has improved overall operation, including:
2.3.1 – Niles has changed the default value of the CCA Clear Channel Assessment setting
from -30 to -10 for new devices (out of the box) to improve performance of all
ZigBee radios in the iRemote, iRemote base, iRemoteTS, RFG Radio Frequency
Gateway, and HT-MSU.
2.3.2 - Note, this CCA change only occurs when firmware updating a device for the very
first time. It does not affect existing devices in the system, which will still need to
be manually adjusted from within the Installer Settings menu.
GXR2
2.4 – GXR2 has improved overall operation, including:
2.4.1 – Resolved two memory leak issues that could result in master keys on user
interfaces “locking up” on systems that contained more than one GXR2 Modular
MultiZone Receiver. This issue was more prevalent with frequent operation of
“Party Mode On” and “Global Off” commands, and was masked temporarily when
the GXR2 chassis were power cycled.
2.4.2 - Resolved Global IR “high output level” issue, enabling the GXR-2 to provide the
proper output level.
IntellIfIle3
2.5 – Intellifile3 has improved overall operation, including:
2.5.1 – The “Generate Report” feature now provides more detail including unit IDs for each
remote on up to two ZigBee RF networks, IM-NET IP addresses, information on
“Linked Zones” and the date that the report was generated.
2.5.2 – Resolved discovery issue on “User Interface Checklist” screen. Now, if NO is
selected on this screen, IntelliFile3 will automatically do a re-discovery.
FIrmware UpDate
2.6 – ICS firmware update has improved overall operation, including:
2.6.1 – Resolved Firmware Update issue that resulted an exception error when running
firmware update on an ICS system that had an RBX-1 RF base not assigned to either
RF network.
2.6.2 - Improvements were made to the discovery process for iRemote Base Stations and
RFGs so that all connected RF devices now appear.
2.6.3 - Resolved Firmware Update report issue that resulted in an incorrect version number
being reported when doing a “Manual” update.
SECTION 3 — KNOWN ISSUES
3.1 – Currently IntelliFile3 is not supported on 64bit PCs. Niles is developing a version of
IntelliFile3 support 64bit PCs running Windows Vista and Windows 7.
3.2 – RF Endpoint Page in IF3 Configuration Program Software will not show RFGs or any active
Networks when iRemote TS units are not installed in the system.
RECOMMENDED
Use Build 142W to Firmware Update entire system as normal including all RFGs.
When using Build 142W IF3 Multizone Configuration Program disconnect any and all Endpoint
RFGs ONLY before the Transfer process to the ICS System. Leave all other RFGs , Masters and
Repeaters as well as RBX units and iRemotes connected to ICS system during Transfer
Program Endpoint RFGs manually using a Display or Contact Keypad to set the RF Channel, Net
ID and Unit ID. (reminder-- Make sure Unit IDs do not conflict)
SECTION 4 — SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
Unique Installation process
- Installation of an IM-NET module requires a firmware update to the ICS system followed by
a separate firmware update for each IM-NET module that occurs via the home network. It is
important that the installation follows steps in a specific order of steps to avoid problems.
Please reference the Read This First document included with each IM-NET for more details.
- iTunes must be installed on the customer’s computer(s) prior to installation of Twonky Server.
- To avoid network conflicts, we recommend that each IM-NET module and each computer
on the network maintain a unique and constant IP address (DHCP Reservation is
recommended).
– The IM-NET module requires IntelliFile3 Configuration Software version 142 or later.
– Upon completion of IntelliFile3 Programming, each IM-NET module is configured using its
respective onboard IM-NET Admin Utility, which is accessed using a network-connected PC or
Mac’s browser (such as Internet Explorer) simply by entering the IM-NET module’s IP address.
The IP address of each module can be accessed via any user interface that has a display.
- Recommended Installation Steps
• In an existing installation, always back up the current configuration file.
• Before installing the IM-NET module, update the current system’s firmware to latest
version using IntelliFile3.
• Power off the master GXR2 and install the IM-NET module(s), power up the GXR2.
• Using IntelliFile3, rerun Firmware Update to install the latest firmware on the newly
installed IM-NET module(s).
• Update the firmware of each IM-NET module by accessing each module’s respective
Admin Utility via a web browser of a network-connected PC or Mac.
• Power cycle the IntelliControl ICS system (all chassis).
• Using IntelliFile3, you can edit the name of each IM-NET module and configure any
specific network settings.
• Configure the router to support the network connections of the system.
• Install iTunes (if not previously installed).
• Install Twonky Server on all applicable network-connected computers.
SECTION 5 — INSTALLATION DOS AND DON'TS
5.1 – Do use iTunes® for all music libraries up to 40,000* tracks. the niles supported
Im-net/itunes configuration requires use of the niles music server (an auto-
configured version of TwonkyServer, which is installed via the Admin Utility in the
IM-NET Module. The niles music server may be installed on up to three PCs and/
or MACs using the same license key.
* note: although iTunes and Twonky™ have no set limit on library size, the IM-NET Module may have difficulties with libraries larger than 40,000 songs.
5.2 - Do install Im-net/itunes as follows:
5.2.1 – Leave all iTunes settings at their default values, which will store the music library
on the main internal drive in the default location. Note: If you need to change the
default iTunes library location to another drive, we strongly recommend that you
use an internal or external local drive, not a network attached or NAS drive. To
move the iTunes library to a different local drive (i.e., to a location different from
the default location), follow the procedure provided by Apple here: http://support.
apple.com/kb/ht1449.
5.2.2 – Make sure that the Niles Music Server is installed after iTunes, otherwise you will
need to re-install the Niles Music Server (same key may be used, since the Twonky
license is keyed to your PC’s MAC address, not the number of times it is installed)
and can be accessed by selecting “Information” from the IM-NET home menu on
any user interface equipped with a display.
5.2.3 – Install the Niles Music Server using all the default settings.
5.2.4 – When installing the IM-NET GXR2 firmware (via IF3), leave the IM-NET card’s
network settings on DHCP.
5.2.5 – If the home network router has DHCP reservation capability (via its configuration
web page), use this feature to provide the end user with a constant IP address.
You will need to know the IM-NET card’s MAC address to do this (it is printed on a
label on the back of each card).
5.3 - During installation of the niles music server on your PC/MAC, there are several
installation options you should be aware of, shown below in order of appearance:
5.3.1 – Language (default is English).
5.3.2 – You must agree to the EULA (end user license agreement).
5.3.3 – You may change the name of the server.
5.3.4 – Choose Express Install (the default) or Custom Install (for more advanced users
only). If you choose Custom Install, you will be presented with an\ additional
choice: A box (checked by default) which installs TwonkyServer as a system
service. Uncheck this box if any of the following are true:
5.3.4.1 – You wish to access music on a NAS drive as a network file share.
(Accessed using a drive letter).
5.3.4.2 – You’d rather not use the UPnP media server in a particular NAS drive due
to sorting/searching/performance issues, yet you’d like to access music
on this drive using IM-NET.
5.3.4.3 – You’d like to combine the music on a NAS drive and the music on your PC
into a single library.
PLEASE NOTE: You will need to map the drive to a local drive letter. For
the new drive letter to be recognized by TwonkyServer, you will need to
reboot your PC.
5.3.4.4 – There is another Niles Music Server checkbox that you may want to keep
in its default checked state. This box, is labeled “Detect and use iTunes
playlist and music database”. The advantage of accessing iTunes music
via its own database is that iTunes will maintain your music library and
playlists, rather than using some other tool.
5.3.4.5 – Many people do not want iTunes to rewrite the ID3 tag data. To avoid it
happening, in iTunes, go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and make
sure that the “Keep iTunes Media folder organized” box is unchecked.
Note that disabling this option requires manual maintenance of the ID3
information.
5.4 - Due to a number of problems (small library size limit, slow speed, playlist
problems), don’t use windows media player (wmp) as a music server for IM-NET.
Niles Technical Support for wmp-related issues will be limited to making sure
that you implement the following guidelines:
5.4.1 – Disable media sharing for IM-NET module in WMP (go to Library >Media Sharing,
and then uncheck Share My Media), or choose “Block” for each IM-NET module,
depending on your Window version.
5.4.2 – Do go to the Manage My Music tab in the IM-NET Admin Utility, and “Hide” all
occurrences of WMP if present (must be done separately for each IM-NET card).
5.5 – Don’t use “smart” playlists in iTunes; the only playlists supported by IM-NET are
user playlists, and genius playlists.
5.6 – Don’t “double-share” music libraries; one media server per library is sufficient.
most media servers allow you to control which media the server may use. some
degree of control over media access may also be exercised in the IM-NET Admin
Utility, where you can show and hide music servers and music services, etc.
5.7 – Do use the show/hide media server setting in the IM-NET Admin Utility to
hide media servers you don’t want to access from the GXR2. The settings can
be different in each IM-NET card, allowing family members to each have an
individualized access to music libraries and Internet services.
5.8 – The preferred approach with the iTunes library is to have it stored on a local disk
drive, either installed inside the computer, or added as an external USB drive.
The problem with storing your iTunes library on a nas drive is that a sleeping
nas drive can cause your iPhone to be wiped during sync. If you want to host
your itunes library on a nas drive, be sure to enable the drive to run 24/7,
without sleep, and consider the following alternatives:
5.8.1 – Configure the NAS drive as a network share mapped to a local drive letter (e.g., Z:), and
stream the music via the Niles Music Server installed on the PC (your PC will also need
to be on 24/7). Note: Due to an iPhone problem. Use this at your own risk.
5.8.2 – If the DLNA compatible UPnP NAS drive hosting your iTunes library is equipped with its
own built-in TwonkyMedia Server, configure it to stream your music to IM-NET.
Note: Due to the wide variety of NAS drive media servers, we cannot guarantee the
suitability of all. Please test your configuration to be certain of performance.
5.9 – Do give TwonkyServer time to re-index your music library after a reboot or
restart. Indexing occurs at a rate of about 400 songs per minute. While some
music may be accessible immediately, during indexing, playlists may not be
usable until indexing completes.
5.10 – TwonkyServer aggregation mode is not recommended.
5.11 – The iTunes xml index file encodes track info whereby some of the less
commonly used european characters have been translated, by iTunes, to plain
forms making it easier for the majority of users to find and play their music. This
reduces the need for users to use iTunes info editor to modify the tags so that
they search and sort properly.
5.12 – If you are using a DMS4 in your Ics system, it’s best to continue using it with its
own IM-Server card (even though that uses up a card slot).
